Working at this location as Security.
Currently due to Pandemic the population is a mix of Homeless clients (but they’re all just people down on life not vagrants or micro) and permanent residents/tenants.
Very clean very quiet.
Do not be turned off by it being used to shelter the less fortunate.

We stayed here a couple years ago and I heard that it’s now used to assist and support homeless people. First of all, five stars as a hotel secondly 10 stars as a place willing to support humanity.

Had a good experience. Met most expectations and reviews I found (cool boutique, gorgeous lobby/bar with live music, good area of town for families).

Only notables were the super expensive and busy bar($35 for two drinks sans tip) and the lackluster balcony. We paid the extra for the suite, which was nice, though I was hoping for a better view. We faced a wall mostly and the constant air conditioning fan noise really took away from the ambiance. Decent but not what I was hoping for. Perhaps other rooms had a better set up. Mine was room 1501 I believe. A plus was that the room was more quiet than expected.

The bar (at the time of my stay) was cash only, which was weird because I didn’t realize people still used paper currency… I asked for additional wash clothes, and they initially sent up hand towels (fixed it though). Minor issues, but generally the chic-est place ever and good service. Easy to locate and free street parking available nearby. So yea, pretty awesome overall.

The lobby caught my attn from the jump. I love how the bar and the sitting area has a rich vibe to it. The bar is a little pricey but I do respect the bartenders vibe (big ups to him. Forgot his name)
The room was okay for me, do not expect it to be big. The bathroom was okay also except for cleanliness of the shower. Also the water did not heat at all. Other than that it was a okay one day stay.

The spatial layout of the room we selected was significantly smaller than the size presented on their website, but other than that, the experience there was very pleasant.
Everything was clean, in perfect running order & nicely decorated. Also, the little bakery next door had delicious treats & the service at the in-Lobby coffee bar was very accommodating. 🤩
The pillows are insanely comfortable, but to soften the sounds of the City bustling outside, earplugs are recommended.
At night, the view was just as we hoped— a mesmerizing treat, like something out of Rear Window meets West Side Story! If I didn’t have the burning desire to explore what else Manhattan has to offer, I’d definitely stay here every time I visit New York!!! 👍🏼👍🏼

Staff very friendly. Room is a very small hole in the wall. Bathroom is so small if you fat and on the toilet you’ll need the jaws of life to get you out. Had to dress in the shower. Sink took up half the bathroom area. The reservation people said the room won’t be held on our card. They are wrong 1 room night fee was held on card. Would have more room if we slept in tent in central park 🙂

The rooms are very very small, which is not a problem if here as a tourist and will not be spending a lot of time in the room. Halls are narrow, so visitors with accessibility needs may find it difficult to navigate the building and elevator without assistance and being able to get up and out of the

Desk staff said they offered roll away beds when I called to confirm my reservation a few days before my arrival, because I had an unexpected addition to my trip and couldn’t upgrade to a larger room, but when I arrived desk staff said they didn’t offer roll away beds, and they probably wouldn’t have fit. Not good for families with kids, but a single person or couple willing to share a full sized bed would be comfortable.

Shower only in the bathroom – shower curtain bar is hung too high/ shower curtain is not long enough to stop water from spilling out of shower stall area, causing the bathroom area to flood. No bath mats provided, so a slip hazard in a tight space.

Complimentary breakfast is edible, but lackluster. Choice of soggy sausage and eggs, cereal, stale baked goods or flavorless, but crispy waffles. Coffee was good, and is available all day.

Staff was exceptionally friendly, and extremely helpful and polite with the accommodations needed for the wheelchair issues that were caused by our airline.

Upon first arrival my wife was a little shocked by the small size of the room. The AC didn’t work well but was adequate. The free breakfast was fine and you get what you pay for. For the price of pretty much the cheapest place it is good. You don’t vacation here intending to stay in the hotel room much anyway. We would stay here again if on a budget.

I was a recent guest for a low-key weekend “Staycation” with my 2 best friends, in honor of my upcoming wedding.
We were treated with care from the moment we checked in. The staff of this hotel is top top top notch — best in class, undoubtedly.
The best part? They’re dog friendly (an understatement — they treated my Chihuahua like the queen that she is) including a dog menu by their on-site Jean-Georges restaurant.
10/10 will stay again. Love this place and its people.
I should also mention that the housekeeping staff was lovely.

We were traveling for the first time to NYC from out of town, we didn’t stay at this hotel but sure wish we did — we stopped by the concierge desk to ask for a recommendation for brunch and even though we weren’t guests, the concierge attendant, Vinmoor, found us a spot and even called to book a reservation for us. He was so kind and really went above and beyond for us so much so that I just had to write a raving review about him. What a great guy!

This review is for the bar only, which charges a cool $25 for an unremarkable cocktail, served by indifferent wait staff, in surroundings that are reminiscent of a down-at-heel night club c.1985. We had to ask for cocktail napkins to soak up the moisture from our sweating glasses, remind the waitperson about a request for water, and when our request for cocktail nuts was declined — they don’t serve them — we ordered a side of fries which were hot and crispy but undercooked. A forgettable experience and one that I will not be repeating. It is a dispiriting feature of some NYC venues that a hefty price tag is equated with quality and service, both of which are lacking here. When the Bar Pleiades at The Surrey re-opens (and let’s hope it does), go there instead. Same neighborhood, but light years away.

My partner and I stayed in a slightly spacious room. It’s pretty small and will get crowded with clutter quickly if you have a lot of luggage on you. The bed is small yet comfortable. we have a slightly good view of the city, can’t see much overall. The water pressure isn’t great and the tub is small. I dislike how the toilet paper dispenser is placed above the waste basket.

Overall, I would stay here again, but I’d get a bigger room if possible.

The room has classic design, with touches of the city. I got to stay in few hotels in the city past couple weeks while my apartment being renovated. The vanity sink’s stopper was broken, and was not draining water. The fact that this wasn’t spotted from the house keeping gave me some doubt about the hotel’s room preparation. They did promptly send someone to fix the sink – though, to me at least, it was sanitary concern, that was below my expectation for the hotel.

Good hotel, comfortable and clean. Not super spacious, if that is a priority for you. But the location is excellent with good access both Uptown and Downtown and a good neighborhood around it. The hotel staff are friendly and accommodating.

The location is very easy to access from the subway and takes only 10-15 minutes from Penn Station and Midtown. Most of the touristy destinations are downtown, but I found that neighborhoods further Uptown were more interesting.

In sum, this is a good low- to mid-budget hotel with good access to the city.

Very nice and clean hotel. Room is small but we don’t spend much time in the room during vacation. Hotel is in the Upper West Side, pretty far from all the tourist attractions, but the red line subway is right outside the hotel, which runs the length of Manhattan and is easy to navigate.
Great deal for the price!

Hotel was nice has microwave and fridge, but the service at the front desk was rude and unprofessional. If I was a different race I wouldn’t have been treated in that manner. Was double charged and not refunded , was told to leave because he couldn’t find my booking. In which he wasn’t even trying to solve the issue, he needs retraining, a class on public relations or simply fired .

I stayed for one night while visiting a nearby relative and chose the King size room for more space. It was immaculate. The staff were courteous and friendly. My two beefs were a bathroom that could use some repairs and street noise. But these are in no way deal breakers. The property’s small size makes access very easy. This is a relic from a different era that is an oasis in the neighborhood.

This is an older hotel which I normally love. The service is not very good from the check in people and the cleaning staff. Generally good but the rooms need some more maintenance and upkeep, the bathrooms especially. Housekeeping could do a better job of replacing used items like soaps etc. On checkout, they tried to charge me $3 for every complimentary coffee pod I’d used in the room + a few more. When I asked if it wasn’t complimentary they just removed the charge – very strange. Worth going if you’re not paying full price..

I was a bit apprehensive about staying in a hostel at first but ended up enjoying it so much I extended from staying 5 days to almost 2 weeks. The property was fun and met lots of great people.

The staff was awesome, David P. at the front made my stay especially pleasant, from helping me with my many stay extensions to helping fix the AC in room when it seemed to go out.

I would definitely go back 🙂

Awesome hostel, the lobby is nice to chill in. Both the bedroom as well as the bathroom were clean. They were also super helpful, especially Patrick!

The lockers on the room are pretty big and even fit a big suitcase (like the ones allowed from airlines). They also have lockers that can be used after checkout.

Perhaps, because of covid, this poor property just seemed a bit run down. From the very beginning when I couldn’t ever reach the hostel itself, to being handed one towel when I got there, I thought it really needed some proper management. I wonder if HI in Boston knew if they would approve. The location is great for getting around, but is on the edgier side of the Columbia university scene….dodgy actually. It is also the dirtier side of the neighborhood, I noticed from walking in the area for bus/subway trips, etc.. It would be wonderful to see the place refurbished and attended to. Hopefully management will improve the running of it, and then I might consider staying there again.

I honestly wasn’t sure of what to expect, but I needed a nice hotel within close distance and the price was right. I had a very nice stay. We got a 1 bedroom suite, which came with a fully equipped kitchen (stove, sub-zero fridge, sink, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and even dishwasher). Room was very pleasant and scrupulously clean. It was very quiet even though we were only on the 3rd floor; couldn’t hear much street noise at all. Bed was comfortable and the bathroom was luxurious.

Staff were welcoming and attentive. Restaurant (Nougatine) downstairs is excellent.

Horrifying. The place is completely out dated. Although, it’s nice and clean. The concierge are absolutely rude and unprofessional. Arriving to visit my friend and I don’t even get greeted. You do need a key to get up on elevator. When I asked someone at the desk this guy stared down at me towering over me and the female attendant stated that they will not contact my friend because it’s 1150pm on memorial weekend. Seriously?!?… my leg wanted to break itself to stop me from entering the that thing. I was getting warned, but I wouldn’t listen. Not worth the money.
